For Vimal Ruia, customers represent the lifeblood of any business. This is the core belief of conglomerate Ruia Group, which is led under Vimal’s directorship, and this has helped them commit to delivering excellence in customer service.

The Ruia Group owns and manages a whole host of international brands. Some of which have been acquired and have been positively transformed under Vimal’s leadership.

Notable brands that come under Ruia Group include:

  • Richard Haworth: Founded in 1876, Richard Haworth supplies premium cotton bed linen to both domestic and commercial markets. When they were acquired by Ruia Group, they heavily invested in the latest manufacturing technologies to meet the demands of their growing international customer base.
  • Glenmuir: As the dominant sportswear brand in the game of golf, Glenmuir has a proud Scottish heritage that dates all the way back to 1891. Glenmuir has a historic association with the European Ryder Cup Team, which began in 1987. They even worked with former captain Colin Montgomerie to design the clothing of the eventual winners of the 2010 Ryder Cup. Glenmuir were acquired by Ruia Group back in 2002.
  • SockShop: Originally established in 1983, the SockShop went from being in administration to becoming the world’s leading specialist in sock and hosiery. The Ruia Group acquired SockShop in 2006 and went on to completely transform them. Today, the SockShop, who now mainly operates as an online provider, has the world’s largest collection of socks, tights, hosiery, underwear and accessories from over 70 brands, which include Calvin Klein, Falke, Pringle and Falker. They also boast a growing range of bamboo products.

Besides adopting a customer-first approach, Vimal also incorporates a philosophy that ensures the well-being of Ruia Group’s suppliers, stakeholders and the environment. His main principles are trust, honesty, open communication and commitment to developing staff.

In addition to successfully managing businesses, Vimal has led the Ruia Group to support numerous charities including Orbis International, Save the Tiger Fund, Coffee Kids and EK Prayaas children’s school in India.

Vimal’s wealth of experience of working in multiple niche markets is a welcomed asset to the IIEPD team.
