Andrew Armstrong

Senior ALS Manager at The Manchester College

An experienced leader in the education sector. Specialises in additional learning support.

When it comes to delivering education that is available to all students from different walks of life, Andrew Armstrong has been one of the leading figures in the Greater Manchester area to ensure this was made possible.

With a career spanning nearly 20 years, Andrew has worked in education all his working life. His career began at The Manchester College as a tutor and he then went on to progress into management where he oversees additional learning support and still does to this very day.

The Manchester College is the largest further education college in the UK and the number one provider of 16 to 19 and adult education in Greater Manchester. At the college, Andrew plays a pivotal role in ensuring learners with disabilities and learning difficulties have access to education.

Andrew is a well-respected individual, not only at The Manchester College but also with governing bodies and organisations right across the Manchester area as he is one of the few individuals in the region who is a registered Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessor.

As an EHC assessor, Andrew works with children and young people who have a disability, health issue or learning difficulty. And in supporting these learners, Andrew works alongside local authorities to create a legally binding document, known as the EHC plan, which outlines the extra help the individual will need to help them achieve their goals. In addition, Andrew also liaises and co-ordinates with education bodies and the NHS to ensure this plan is carried out.

His commitment to helping students has been recognised by his peers and was awarded The Manchester College’s Outstanding Achievement Award for Student Support and Experience.

In addition to serving the education sector, Andrew is also a longstanding board member of People First Housing Association where he primarily focuses on safeguarding and disability housing.

As a member of the IIEPD board, his wealth of experience is an invaluable input in helping the IIEPD become the world leader in holistic training.
